Daren Sammy’s West Indies are in the world cup semi finals for the third consecutive time. As Captain, Sammy won the World Cup in 2012 in Sri Lanka, came in second behind Sri Lanka in the 2014 World Cup and are now in the final four in India. Sammy’s captaincy has been highly touted, after having an excellent time rotating the field and bowling attack in Friday’s match-up against South Africa. In a must win game for South Africa, Sammy brought on Chris Gayle early in the innings, despite the Jamaican being without match bowling practice since 2012. Gayle went on to take 2/17 to restrict South Africa to just 122/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, West Indies struggled to adjust to the paste of the Mumbi wicket. Another Lucian, Johnson Charles played decently scoring 32 after big hitter Chris Gayle was bowled for just 4 runs. Marlon Samuel however steadied the innings scoring 44 to secure victory for West Indies by 3 wickets.
