For many who saw the preliminary round of matches at the Mabouya Valley, Canaries was perhaps the most complete team in this year’s Vizions Entertainment in collaboration with the St. Lucia Football Associations Super League. But the team from the West who have impressed in years past, had a lackluster performance in front of their traveling Netball fans. Vieux-Fort North on the other hand came to play. The team from the south who featured many of the players from Young Roots, who recently won the St. Lucia Football Associations Presidents Cup, played perhaps the most physical game in the competition to date.
In a match that was interrupted frequently by the referee’s whistle, both teams created little opportunities to pierce the old onion bag. In a move that surprised many, David Henry, one of St. Lucia’s premier strikers was substituted by the Canaries coach mere moments before an inevitable penalty shootout.
Vieux-Fort took no such chances, burying all but one of their penalty shots, to advance on penalties 4-2.
