The Vieux-fort Multi-purpose court was re-opened last weekend after undergoing thorough refurbishment. St. Lucia Sports Online met up with acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Dr. Anthony George who told us what this meant for the community. “We are exceptionally excited about the re-opening of the court, it will serve as a fantastic avenue for talent identification and exposure for young athletes,” the acting permanent secretary said. “There is such great joy in the community as this will contribute to the development of sports played on courts. ” Dr. George also spoke to the overall wealth of talent in the Vieux-Fort area and the ability of facilities such as these to assist in developing life skills among individuals. The P.S believes that this facility will serve to further increase the level of achievement of young persons from the southern district.
A Representative from the national lotteries authority also spoke to their input in the refurbishment of courts. “The Lottery has been undertaking a number of infrastructural developments in places like Mongouge and Belle Vue, the authority has taken seriously its mandate of sports and facility development around St. Lucia,” the representative said. The multi-purpose court was refurbished as a result of the direct request of the Prime Minister of St. Lucia and Parliamentary Rep for Vieux-Fort South Dr. Kenny D. Anthony.
