Lendl Simmons withdrew from the West Indies squad for the World Twenty20 with a back injury, and Evin Lewis takes his berth.
West Indies have announced uncapped Evin Lewis as the replacement for Lendl Simmons in their squad for the World Twenty20 in India.
The Windies had already had Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo and Sunil Narine pull out of the initial 15-man squad for this month’s tournament, with a back injury forcing Simmons to follow suit last Saturday.
Left-handed batsman Lewis, who is yet to make an international appearance, has joined the squad in his stead.
“Evin Lewis a young and exciting batsman who we believe he will fit into the team set-up very well. He has the ability to perform at this level of the game,” chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd said in a statement.
“His selection is in keeping with our policy to give exposure to young, talented players we believe will help to carry West Indies cricket forward.”
West Indies play official warm-up matches against India on Thursday and Sunday respectively, before beginning their Super 10 campaign against England in Mumbai on March 15.
