Monchy’s track and field star Thomyka Vancent overcame a nagging injury to win the 400m title at the 2016 Inter-Schools Track and Field Championships. Despite a heavy doss of rain at the BCG, organizers took all the necessary steps to ensure that athletes who have been involved in training for almost a year in anticipation of this event, were able to compete in their respective finals.
When the rains subsided, Valcent who attended the Monchy Primary school, wore the green and gold of the Leon Hess Comprehensive,braved the slippery serface and a swollen ankle, to blow pass St. Lucia’s best in the 400m final. Earlier the Rockets Athletics member, secured a silver medal in the girls 800m. The 13 year old Gros-Islet sensation will continue her training with the hopes of making it to the Carifta Games in 2017.
