The Saint Lucia Golf Club is getting set to host the Virgin Atlantic/ National Lotteries Authority Saint Lucia Open from April 8 – 10 2016. Local, regional and international players are aiming high at that prestigious first prize in both the gross and nett category of a trip to the United Kingdom on Virgin Airlines. So far 40 plus golfer have signed up including players from Canada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and host country Saint Lucia. Entries from Antigua and Saint Kitts are expected to follow soon along with 8 juniors earning the privilege of participating and competing against each other.
The top 4 boys and top 4 girls from Saint Lucia will earn their spots from an option of 2 qualifiers, one which took place on Saturday March 26th and the other will take place on Saturday April 2nd. Saint Lucia’s top hopeful Romanus Inglis who has been bridesmaid for the last three tournaments is hoping that this year would be his breakthrough year. However, he has stiff competition from Ben Gillmor who represented Saint Lucia in the Latin America Amateur Championship in January of this year. Veteran golfer and Golfer of the year 2015 Cliff Alcide who also represented Saint Lucia in the Latin America Amateur Championship is also hoping that this year he can continue his good form and out do the two young guns for the main prize.
The event is also a qualifying event for Saint Lucian golfers to earn a spot on the national team for the Eastern Caribbean Golf Championships which is being held in Saint Croix in October of this year.
