The Saint Lucia Premier League T20 tournament got on the way on Friday evening, in front of an absolutely packed crowd at the Soufriere Mini Stadium. In the opening game of the tournament, home team Soufriere Pitons took on Choiseul Craft Masters. Batting first, the Craft Masters got to the respectable total of 141 all out in 17. 5 overs. Christian Charlery top scored with 48 from 35 deliveries. For Soufriere Wayne Prosper was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/12 in 2.5 overs. He was ably assisted by Nick Elibox who took 3/25 in his 4 overs.
In response, thanks to some brilliant off-spin bowling early on from Alvinus Simon (1/24), the home team struggled to get any meaningful partnerships together at the top. Yet, toward the end of the innings it was the Sanjay Pamphile show! Pamphile hit 49 from just 23 deliveries, inclusive of 6 massive sixes and just 1 four. Despite this mesmerizing innings, the Pitons were bowled out for 129 in 19.1 overs. Travis Gifford was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3/15 in 3.1 overs, while Vince Smith bagged 2/15.
In the end, the Craft Masters won by 12 runs.
