St. Lucia’s world ranked highjumper and reigning Sports Woman Of The Year Levern Donaline Spencer, continued from where she left off in the 2016 indoor season by opening her outdoor season with a gold medal winning performance in the United States. Competing last Saturday at the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Georgia, the Caribbean’s premiere female highjumper had a very impressive start to her outdoor season by clearing 1.92m to win the gold medal. Spencer, who opened her account at 1.83m, required only 4 jumps on the day to achieve her winning clearance of 1.92m, a height which placed her in 5th position on the world’s 2016 outdoor list.
The prolific highjumper from St, Lucia, who last month placed 5th at the World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon and ended the 2016 indoor season with the 6th best jump in the world, had 1st time clearances at 1.83m, and 1.89m before clearing 1.92m on her 2nd attempt. She then had one very good attempt at 1.96m before a niggling hamstring problem forced her to close shop for the day, at what stage she already had the competition won.
Another st. Lucian highjumper in the person of Jeannelle Scheper placed second on the day after 1st time clearances at 1.80m and 1.83m and 3rd time clearances at 1.75m, 1.86m and 1.89m
