SLFA Eleven for Health Program

The St. Lucia Football Association with FIFA will be providing a Football-based Health Education Programme for children throughout the island. The objective of the Programme is to educate children that Health is the key for development and growth considering the poverty, hunger and infections which is happening in the different countries.  Education is also important on health issues such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity, Heart Disease and Tuberculosis which are killing millions of persons worldwide.


The 11 for Health program is comprised of eleven 90-minutes sessions each consisting of two 45-minutes halves.  The first half is called “Flay Football” and focuses on teaching young people skills related to specific aspect of football.  The second half is called “Play Fair” and will focus on teaching them about the particular health issue and helping them to learn health behavior with the following Health Message:

  • Play Football Playing – Football
  • Respect Girls and Women – Passing
  • Protect yourself from HIV – Heading
  • Avoid drugs and alcohol – Dribbling
  • Use treated beds nets – Shielding
  • Wash your hands – Defending
  • Drink clean water – Trapping
  • Eat a balanced diet – Building Fitness
  • Vaccinate yourself and your family – Shooting
  • Take your prescribed medication – Goalkeeping
  • Fair play – Teamwork

A total of 429 children are expected to take part in this Health Training with the following schedule:

Ciceron – March 28th and 29th

District 2 – March 29th, 30th and 31st

Fond Assau/Millet – March 29th – 30th

La Croix Maingot – March 30th, 31st and April 1st.

Bexon/Rosseau – March 31st – April 1st

Boguis – March 30th and 31st

Babonneau – March 31st – April 1st

Bexon – March 31st – April 1st

Anse La Raye – April 4th and 5th

Bocage – April 5th and 6th

Gros Islet – April 5th 6th and 7th


The Programme which was introduced to the Caribbean have trained 29 Physical Education Teachers who have implemented the programme in their various schools over an 11 week period. 360 schools are covered Nationwide.
