Shortlisted Nominee For Sportswoman of the Year Julien Alfred Profile


Participating at Boys and Girls Champs in 2017, Julien Alfred established a National Junior record of 24.17 seconds in the semi finals of the 200 meters. She lowered this to 24.00 seconds for a seventh place finish in the finals. She also managed a fourth place finish in the 100 meters in a time of 11.83 seconds.At the Digicel Grand Prix in Jamaica she placed second in the 100 meters and established a new junior record of 11.53 seconds. This time enabled her to qualify for both the CARIFTA Games and the World Youth Under 18 Games. Still in Jamaica she earned a first place of 11.98 seconds in the 100 meters.

At the CARIFTA Games Julien placed fifth in the finals of the 100 meters in 12.01 seconds. Running at the local championships, she returned a time of 11.61 seconds in the 100 meters to grab the gold medal.Her year’s crowning moment was realized when she won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. In the process, she became the first St. Lucian to achieve a gold medal at this prestigious event. Julien Alfred is currently ranked seventh in the World in the Under 18 category.
