SJC Defeated the Reigning Female Volleyball Champions.The ladies from St Joseph’s Convent made an impressive start to their 2017 Inter Schools Volleyball Season when they defeated defending champions SALCC 2 Sets to 1 in a friendly encounter yesterday at the SALCC Multi-Purpose Court. Assisted by numerous unforced errors from the SALCC females SJC seemed determined to embarrass former coach, Stewart Albert, who is now Lecturer and Coach at SALCC. SALCC won the first set 25-23 but then seemed to have lost their way losing the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21. Coach Stewart Says he is not concerned about the loss since it was an opportunity to identify the strengths and weaknesses in his team as they prepare for their first encounter in the competition next week. SJC were overjoyed with the victory and the players and staff who attended the game both indicated that this was a major boost to the confidence of the team. SALCC is expected to visIt SJC within the next two weeks for the return leg.
Meanwhile all is set for the staging of the 17th annual SALCC Inter House Track and Field and Cheerleading Championship tomorrow from 10am at the Mindoo Phillip Park. Sports Committee Members met yesterday to deal with a few outstanding issues and will assemble at 10am this morning to ensure that all is progressing as planned. The event will this year include races for Secondary schools in the Under 15 and Under 18 categories and 2 Sprinters from T A Marryshow Community College will arrive on island this afternoon to challenge the best from SALCC. The Jamaica College of Agriculture which did confirm their participation were not able to get a flight in for tomorrow’s event and have indicated that they are unable to attend. A 100m sprint and 4 x 100m relay have also been included for past students and the points from these events will also contribute to the house totals. The Cheer Leading Competition is expected to be very keenly contested and remains a major attraction to the event.
