Powell to Attempt Sprint Double

Asafa Powell has been working hard. The athlete believes that this may be his last Olympic Games. The former 100m world record holder Asafa is expected to attempt the sprint double as he prepares for this summer’s Rio Olympics. Powell, traditionally a 100m specialist, has often avoided doubling the distance due to fear of getting injured on the corner. Now, under the tutelage of older brother Donovan Powell, it seems the strategy will be a lot different this time around, with the sprinter targeting both events at the Jamaica national trials. Powell has already run the 200m twice this season, clocking 20.51 in Texas last month and 20.45 to take the event at the Jamaica International Invitational on the weekend. “Time is running out and I have been running only the 100m for years now and most sprinters are running the double and I want to give it a shot,” Powell told the Jamaica Observer
