Cricket Tournament Report
The Mon Repos Eastern Cooperative Credit Union T20 Cricket Tournament commenced with four fixtured matches over the weekend of May 27 & 28, 2017. The Wenn Playing field was treated to an exciting first match which eventually got stopped by rain; but it was not before Patience Youth Organization (PYO) posted a mammoth 217 for 5 wickets against a strong Micoud team. The main contributors for PYO were Shervin Charles 66, Dasius Joseph 51 (the 1st fifty of the tournament) and Gracious Descartes 29. For Micoud, Barrie Charles bagged 3 for 26 and Larry St. Marie took 1 for 30. In their turn at the crease, Micoud replied with 102 for 1 before rain stopped play. Kim St. Marie was on 48 and Barry Justin was on 43. However, PYO won on a better run rate.
In the second match of the day, La Pointe 4H took on Dugard in a 15 over battle. Dugard was boosted with the presence of Daren Sammy. However, La Pointe 4H amassed 143 for 3, due largely to 51 not out from Murguran Joseph and 49 not out from Hayzel Charlery. For Dugard, Murlan Sammy had 3 for 30 and Travis Gifford took 1 for 24. Dugard replied with 118 for 8 in their 15 overs. Batting for Dugard Travis Gifford & Hezron Joseph scored 28 each, and Lance Sammy scored 26. Bowling for La Pointe, Murguran Joseph took 3 for 16, while Irwin Lubin and Kervin James had 2 wickets each. La Pointe 4H won by 25 runs.
Inclement weather forced an abandoned 1st match between Praslin and Vieux Fort South on Sunday, and teams had to share the points. However, the spectators were anxious for the second match which saw Lombard versus Small Axe in battle. Lombard batted first and scored 114 all out in their 15 overs. The main scorers were Leeran Reno with 26 and Zack Mathurin and Darren Jn Pierre getting 16 each. For Small Axe, Stanislas Saltibus bagged 3 for 20 and Martin Martin had 3 for 31. Small Axe in reply could only muster 89 all out. Stanislas Saltibus had a good all-round performance scoring 38 and Dixon Serieux hit 23. For Lombard Darran Jn. Pierre bagged 3 for 16. Lombard won by 26 runs.
The Tournament continues this weekend with six (6) matches.
