Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Welcomes Polynesian Canoes

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, in collaboration with the French Embassy  are preparing to welcome four Polynesian canoes from Martinique and to receive a donation of two of the vessels.

An official reception will be held at The Saint Lucia Yacht Club on Thursday May 5 2016 for the group of approximately 10 persons who will have rowed across from St. Anne in Martinique to  Saint Lucia.

During the ceremony,  remarks will be delivered by Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of Gros-Islet, Hon Emma Hippolyte, Frank Arnette, President of the Sainte Anne Va’a Association, Dr Stephane Dovert – Regional Counsellor – Embassy of France to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)  and Permanent Secretary the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Dr. Anthony George.

On Friday, May 6 2016, there will be a ceremony for the handing over of two canoes to the Ministry at 12 Noon. The presentation will be preceded by  a rally of four canoes from Rodney Bay to Pointe Seraphine. Friday’s ceremony will take place at the Alliance Francaise.
