The 2017 Schools Sports calendar kicked off with yet sporting discipline on Monday. Despite heavy rainfall causing the postponement of games up north, a number of games got on the way in the south of the island. In one of the highly anticipated match ups early in the season, Soufriere comprehensive took on Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary school. In that match up, Canaries native and national netball player Megan Nestor shot 16 from her 24 attempts to seal victory for Soufriere Comprehensive, while Tancy Pascal scored 10 from 19 attempts. For Vieux Fort, Kayla Camille scored 7 from her 16 attempts as they went down 26-10 in this match up.
In another match played, Micoud secondary defeated Choiseul secondary 36-13. For Micoud, Merkissa Theodule scored 16 from 34 attempts, while Kiana Nelson scored 18 from 35 attempts. For Choiseul, Gena Joseph scored 8 from 16 attempts.
Clendon Mason Memorial defeated Beanfield secondary 10 – 5 in a very low scoring affair. Shania Theodule scored 8 from 24 attempts for the school in the heart of Dennery.
