The 2016 Massy United Insurance Under-19 Schools Cricket Tournament continued with quarter final action on Tuesday, March 15 at venues island-wide. Advancing into the semi-final stage are, St. Mary’s College, Leon Hess Comprehensive, Piaye Secondary, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School.
At the La Resource Playing Field in the Mabouya Valley, St Mary’s College in a low scoring match registered a 95 run victory over Vieux Fort Comprehensive La Ressource Secondary.
St. Mary’s College batting first was dismissed for 127 in 28 overs, with Benroy Papin finishing on 50 not out and Qwaine Henry 15. Bowling for Vieux Fort Comprehensive, Zephaniah Edwin 3 for 38 in 7 overs, Fancois Rangin 2 for 22 in 5 overs and Jamal Joseph 2 for 26 in 6 overs.
In reply, Vieux Fort Comprehensive was rolled over for 32 in 13 overs. Doing the damage for St.Mary’s College was left arm seamer Dillon La Force who finished with outstanding figures of 6 for 16 in 6 overs and Benroy Papin 3 for 7 in 6 overs.
Massy United Insurance “Player of the Match” for a fine all-round performance went to Benroy Papin of St Mary’s College.
At the Dennery playing field, in another low scoring match, Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School registered a 3 wicket win over Grand Riviere Secondary.
Grand Riviere Secondary taking first knock was dismissed for 73 in 18.2 overs, with Glen John making 21 and Zachary Sandiford 10.
For Leon Hess Comprehensive, the wickets were shared among National Under-15 players, Keygan Arnold with 3 for 18 in 5 overs, Mateo Boulogne 3 for 25 in 5 overs and Jaden Elibox 2 for 20 in 4 overs.
Chasing a victory target of 74, Leon Hess finished on 74 for for 7 in 21 overs, with Udell Preville contributing 18. Bowling for Grand Riviere Secondary, Mc Kenny Flavius 2 for 18 in 5 overs and Zachary Edmund 2 for 19 in 8 overs.
Massy United Insurance “Player of the Match” went to Udell Preville of Leon Hess Comprehensive for leading his team to victory.
At the Monchy Playing Field, Castries Comprehensive Secondary defeated SDA Academy comfortably by 5 wickets. SDA Academy batting first was dismissed for 215 in 36.3 overs, with Chaz Cepal top scoring with 58, Shakim George 23 and Clendon Donai 16. Bowling for Castries Comprehensive, Zayee Antoine 4 for 10 in 3 overs and Dominic Auguste 2 for 33 in 8 overs.
Set 216 for the win, Castries Comprehensive, led by an unbeaten century by opening batsman Adil Barlow, got over the line, finishing on 217 for 5 in 35.4 overs. Adil Barlow hit his second hundred in the tournament, a well-controlled and classy 101 not with 8 fours and 6 sixes. Joshua Le Compte with 28 and Dudley Charles 15 not out made good contributions. For SDA Academy, Rumario Simmons picked up 3 for 29 in 8 overs.
Massy United Insurance “Player of the Match” went to Adil Barlow of Castries Comprehensive Secondary for his brilliant century.
At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College defeated Babonneau Secondary by 157 runs. Sir Arthur batting first, made an imposing 376 for 6 in their allotted 35 overs with skipper Kester Charlemagne making a rapid century. His inning of 176 not out comprised of 18 fours and 11 sixes. Other useful scores came from Leon Abraham with 43, Kevyn Arnold 39 and 20 each from Christian Charlery and Joshua Edward. Rene Montoute was Babonneau Secondary’s best bowler with 3 for 65 in 7 overs.
In reply, Babonneau Secondary was bowled out for 219 in 32 overs, with Kimani Melius the leading run scorer for the tournament so far, making 45, Stavone Gabriel 38, Rene Montoute 36 and Christian Alfred 34. For Sir Arthur Lewis, Kevyn Arnold, Stuart Calderon and Joshua Edward took 2 wickets each.

At the Piaye Playing Field, home team Piaye Secondary totally outplayed Micoud Secondary, winning easily by 201 runs.
Piaye Secondary batting first was dismissed for 269 in 34.5 overs, with Nick Andrew leading the way with 75 which included 8 fours and 4 sixes, Shervin George 31, Ray Joseph 28, Yannick Osman 27 and Shelton St. Rose 20.
Bowling for Micoud Secondary, Canaii Nervais 4 for 48 in 6.5 overs, Garvin Serieux 2 for 30 in 8 overs and Dillon Fanis 2 for 69 in 9 overs.
In reply, Micoud Secondary was bowled out in the 19th over for 68, with Garvin Serieux making 22. For Piaye Secondary, the chief destroyer was seamer, Shelton St Rose with figures of 7 for 14 in 8.3 overs.
The Massy United Insurance “Player of the Match” went to Shelton St. Rose for his outstanding bowling for Piaye Secondary.
