Martial Arts in St. Lucia

The St. Lucia Piton Open is considered to be one of the most prestigious martial arts events in St Lucia. On Thursday 17th March, 2016 St. Lucia Sports Online spoke to Mr. Benny Chitole Chairman of the Association of professional Martial Artiste. Mr. Chitole explained that he is pleased with the arrangement made with other countries in the region to attend this event consistently over the past years. He believes that martial arts is an important sports in St. Lucia and that it should not be allowed to die.

We also met up with Master Jose Torres who is the executive director of the North American Federation of Martial Arts. Torres explained that he is very excited to be in St. Lucia for the third year running: “this time around I brought along my entire family, my wife and kids to take in this lovely island” he said.Jose-Torres-image-1

One of the athletes competing in this tournament is Ryan Torres from the United States. Ryan told St. Lucia Sports Online that martial arts have impacted his life tremendously.

“Martial arts have really made me a confident person, it takes a lot of self discipline and commitment and my progress have really encouraged me, young Ryan explained. In true confidence garnered from martial arts, Ryan boasted that he “expects to win and kick butt” in St. Lucia. The St. Lucia Piton Open Martial Arts Annual Festival is scheduled for Sunday March 20th, 2016 at the Beausejour Indoor facility from 10am.
