Press Release: The SLNCA would like to commend the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports in their efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure and environment to uplift the standard of the sport on the island. Since the establishment of a Ministry of Sports, there has been a concerted effort to both increase and improve the community grounds used for cricket. Anse La Raye, La Resource, Phillip Marcillin had their pitches restored while Marigot and Bexon will have newly constructed pitches. The availability of pitches in those communities will allow for introduction of community based cricket programs as well as domestic competitions. The just concluded Prime Minister’s T20 Cup was further testimony to the continued collaboration between the cricket association and the Ministry of Sports. The incentive based competition fostered keen rivalry among participating districts as well as giving the players a chance to exhibit a high level of performance. The hosting communities used the opportunity to show grate support for the talent on display, a show of support not seen even during the popular Benson & Hedges Knock out club tournament in the 90’s. The Association looks forward to the continued collaboration and assistance of the Ministry of Sports as they look to expand the cricket development program to equip players for representation at the sub regional, regional and international levels.
