Adrenaline-charged, engaging, stupendous, exhilarating and awesome was how many described The District Eight 2016 Athletic championships held at the Soufriere Mini Stadium. It began with an overwhelmingly packed stadium on the preceding Friday as many patrons were eventually soaked with disappointment as the torrential down pour brought the activity to a screeching halt. The meet continued on Tuesday 15th March with Soufriere primary school going into Tuesday with a small lead after over-taking Canaries primary who lead after the cricket ball throw.
There were a total of 8 lead changes throughout the day with the final relay deciding this year champion as there was only a 3 point gap between Soufriere primary school and Les Etange combined… The final relay saw Canaries primary winning the 4 × 300 meters boys under 13 to book their place as the third place school this year .. Soufriere primary finished the final race in 5th which meant Les Etange combined finishing in second in the final race over taking Soufriere primary on the points table to defend their titles as 2016 district 8 champions.
Fond St Jacque Primacy School and Bouton combined school were 4th and 5th respectively… Micha Sobas and Kernisha Jn Baptist of Les Etang where the Victor and victrix for under 9. Les Etange’s Utelca Taylor who won every individual race was named the top under 11 girl and Cy Alcindor of Soufriere primary was the top boy.. The Under 13 boys where dominated by Kerrick Symphorian of Canaries primary and Amy Joseph who left the meet with a total of 6 gold medals was the victrix for the under 13 girls….
