(www.espn.com)INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – LeBron James was elected sportsman of the year by Sports Illustrated after leading the Cavaliers to an NBA title and end the championship drought of 52 years of Cleveland.
James came back with the Cavs in NBA Finals favorites to defeat the Golden State Warriors , who won 73 games during the regular season. James was chosen MVP of the finals for the third time in his career after Cleveland became the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit.
James scored 41 points in Games 5 and 6 and made a key block in the final minutes of Game 7.
The star of the Cavs on Twitter reacted to the prize.
James joins Tiger Woods as the only two-time winners of the prize.
James, 31, has won three MVP of the league. He returned to Cleveland in 2014 after four seasons in Miami, where he led the Heat to four consecutive finals and two titles.
