Kimani Melius leads the Windward Islands Under – 19 Cricket Team to a hard fought 22 runs victory over Barbados as the WICB (CWI) Regional 50 over Cricket Tournament continued in St Kitts.The Windwards after going down to the Leeward Islands in their previous game bounced back with a good victory over Barbados.
The Windwards batting first in a game reduced to 20 overs due to rain made 135 for 9 in their allotted overs with St Lucian Kimani Melius continuing his outstanding batting which he displayed during the 3 day format of the tournament, top scored with a stroke fill 71 in just 49 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Only 2 other batsmen reached double figures, Johnnel Eugene with 13 and Tahj Tavenier 11. St Lucian Dane Edward who opened with Melius was run out for 7.Dante Niles was the main wicket taker for Barbados with 4 for 33 in 4 overs. Camarine Boyce lent good support with 2 for 14 in his 4 overs.
In reply Barbados were restricted to 113 for 8 in their 20 overs with Shian Brathwaite making 38 Nico Reifer 24 and Kadeem Alleyne 16.Bowling for the Windwards, Alick Athanaze 3 for 13 in 3 overs, Shermill Lewis 2 for 20 in 4 overs and 1 wicket to Lee Louisy.The Windwards next opponents will be Trinidad & Tobago.
