The Gros Islet Under -19 Cricket Team are the 2016 St Lucia National Cricket Association National Lotteries Authority Under – 19 Cricket Champions.
Press Release:On Sunday, May 8 in the tournament’s grand finals played at the Mindoo Phillip Park, the Gros Islet Under – 19 Cricket Team completely outplayed fellow finalist South Castries to record a convincing 229 run victory.
Gros Islet winning the toss and batting first, led by a magnificent opening partnership of 256 runs between Dane Edward and Jard Goodman reached an imposing 323 for 4 in their allotment of 45 overs. Opener Dane Edward, batting with great command and authority made a magnificent century. His knock of 142 included 14 fours and 7 sixes. Fellow opening batsman, Jard Goodman also batted with great command and authority in making a delightful 95 before he was run out, falling just 5 short of what would have been a well deserved century.
His knock included 8 fours and 1 six. Kimani Melius who came in at number 3 lent good support with a rapid knock of 35 not out which included 3 fours and 3 sixes together with Vernillius Gabriel 17. It must be noted that all 4 wickets lost by Gros Islet were by the run out route.
In reply, South Castries found the going tough in coping with the Gros Islet spinners and was dismissed for 94 in 21.5 overs, with Ardil Barlow making 26, Nickson Edmund 22 and Collinus Callender 12. For Gros Islet, the wicket takers were left arm spinners Rene Montoute with 3 for 34 in 9 overs, Simeon Gerson 2 for 20 in 6 overs, off spinner Dane Edward with 2 for 10 in 2 overs and seamer Veron Preville with 1 for 28 in 5 overs. Gros-Islet won by 229 runs.
