Des Barras Invitational T20 Competition

The final match in the round robin stage of the Alvina Reynolds Des Barras Invitational T20 Competition was played on Sunday April 17, 2016 at the Des Barras Playing Field. Des Barras comfortably brushed aside Touring United by 90 runs to maintain their unbeaten record in their competition. The match started under overcast condition with Touring United winning the toss and inviting Des Barras to bat first. Des Barras recovered well after being in a spot of bother at 52 for 4 to post what turned out to be an impregnable 167 all out in their 20 overs. The batting for Des Barras was led by Isiah Wilfred who score 40 (3 fours and 2 sixes) and John Estephane 26 not out (4 fours and 1 six). Other significant contributions with the bat for Des Barras came from Tristan Pierre, 18, Marvin Volney, 19. Touring United did not help their cause by contributing 28 extras to the Des Barras total. Bowling for Touring United, Aldon Eugene returned 1 for 37 of 4 overs, Jerry Remy 2 for 38 of 4 overs, Mac Vern Remy 2 for 43 of 4 overs and the pick of the bowling for Touring United, Shervon Joseph 3 for 11 of 3 overs. At their turn to bat Touring United was only able to gather a paltry 77 all out of 17 overs. Sechandah Gustave continued his economical spells with 3 overs for 4 runs. However, the wickets for Des Barras were taken by Nehemiah Wilfred 2 for 15 of 3 overs, Fendly Estephane 2 for 13 of 4 overs. Marvin Volney, Isiah Wilfred and Kemeon Wilfred all bagged on wicket each for Des Barras.

 

Meanwhile in an earlier match Garrand held their nerve to defeat the Babonneau U-19 lads by 2 wickets. The U-19 buys batting first were bowled out for 118 in 16 overs. J. Goodman 50 and D. Long 22 were the only batsmen to get into double figures. Bowling for Garrand, C. Lewis bagged 3 for 27 of four overs including a hat trick; D. Charles 2 for 16 of 4 overs and G. John 1 for 16 in 4 overs. At their turn to bat Garrand held their nerve after wobbling at 35 for 5 to secure victory by 2 wicket thanks mainly to some wayward bowling by the u 19 lad that contributed 44 extras and M. David who scored 32 not out. Bowling for the U-19s, K. Charlemagne returned 2 for 19 of 4 overs, T. Norley 3 for 29 of 4 overs and J. Eugene 2 for 24 of 4 overs.
