Press Release: After a one-year absence the Castries Football Council (CFC) will launch its Super League (CSL) on Saturday April 9th with a double header at the SAB playing facility. The CFC CSL is the preeminent tournament for teams affiliated with the Castries Football Council and will see six of the affiliates play in a double round robin league format. As a part of the lead up a pre-tournament soccerama was held on March 20th. The soccerama was won by NYAH FC who over the years has proven to be very formidable in that format of the game.
A new feature of the 2016 edition is that affiliates were presented with the opportunity to field two teams as the CFC attempts to provide more football for the membership. Two of the participating affiliates; Flow Lancers FC and VSADC took advantage of this opportunity and will field youth teams in the tournament. The full slate of participating teams includes Flow Lancers FC, Flow Lancers FC under 17, FC Pioneers, NYAH FC, Sunrisers, VSADC, VSADC under 21 and Valley Soccer Club.
The start of the CSL is a part of a packed calendar for the CFC with the Council slated to host a “Big Four” knockout tournament, the annual ECFH/Lucelec youth league, female grassroots festivals and an under 20 tournament.
Matches in the CSL will take place on the weekends with double headers on Saturdays and Sundays. The opening match of the tournament will feature FC Pioneers versus Valley Soccer Club which will be followed by VSADC under 21 playing against Flow Lancers FC under 17. On Sunday the heated Castries derby; Flow Lancers FC versus VSADC will recommence with a mid-afternoon clash from 2:00 pm. The stage for these two CSL matches between Flow Lancers FC and VSADC will be set by a clash on of their under 14 teams in the northern zone under 14 youth tournament at 11:00 am on Saturday morning at the Grande Riviere playing field.
The final match of the weekend will see Sunrisers take on the soccerama champions NYAH FC.
