Members of the boxing fraternity were seen at the incomplete boxing facility on Saturday morning. St. Lucia Sports Online caught the coach, national boxers and the president of the local association working assiduously in the hopes of bringing the facility up to training standard.
“It is very difficult for us to continue to train at the Vigie Sports Complex because of weather conditions,” said president of the St. Lucia Boxing Association David Shakes Christopher. “We cannot continue to wait on the authorities to complete the gym, as we have the Caribbean Boxing Championship coming soon, so we have a coudmere today.”
Those sentiments were echoed by national boxing coach Conrad Murray who explained that preparation for the major upcoming tournaments requires proper facilities.
Also working tirelessly on the gym today was national boxer of the year Lyndel Marcellin. “All we want is a gym to train” he said, “just a gym.”
The Caribbean Development Boxing Championships is expected to bring over 300 boxers from across the region to St. Lucia in December.
