Des Barras T20 Invitational

An impressive 85 of 46 balls by Babonneau veteran cricketer Hazel Foster was insufficient as Balata suffered a second defeat in the Des Barras T20 Invitational Competition to Garrand on Sunday March 20, 2016. Balata won the toss and batted first scoring 160 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Foster who opened the batting for his team showed no mercy to the Garrand bowling as he hit 12 fours and four sixes in his knock of 85. He lost his wicket in the 17th over trying to get quick runs for his side. Other noteworthy contributions for Balata came from Denis James 13, Marius Isidore 21 and Michera Alexander 13. Garrand at their turn to bat chased down 161 for victory thanks to some wayward bowling by Balata in 16.4 overs. Scoring for Garrand were D. John 19 (3 fours), K John 35 (3 fours and 1 six), M. Tisson 18 (3 sixes). Bowling for Balata M. Lancello return 3 – 30 in 4 0vers Earlier in the day Des Barras continued their winning ways when they defeated the Babonneau – U19 by 11 runs to move at the top of the point standings. Des Barras won the toss and elected to bat first, in a match reduced to 15 overs a side because of a late start, amassed 141 for 6.

Aloysious Sydney again carried the batting for Des Barras scoring 46 not out with 5 fours and 2 sixes. He was ably assisted by Kissinger Anthony 14 (3 fours), Tristan Pierre 17 (2 fours, 1 six) and John Estephane 23 (2 fours, 2 sixes) Bowling for the U – 19 lads, D. Popo returned 1- 12 in 2 overs, S. John 1 – 29 in 2 overs, A. Scott 1 – 13 in 2 overs and J. Eugene 1 – 22 in 2 overs. Despite an aggressive 46 (4 fours, 4 sixes) by Jonel Eugene Babonneau U -19 fell 12 runs short of the 142 target. Jonel was well assisted in the chase by Quane Henry 29 (4 fours 1 six) K. Arnold 25(1 four 3 sixes). Final Scores: Des Barras 141 for 6 in 15 overs Babonneau U -19 130 for 4 in 15 overs The tournament continues on Friday March 25, 2016 with Des Barras vs Garrand at 10:00 a.m and Touring vs Babonneau U – 19 at 2. 00p.m. The double header on Sunday March 27, 2016 will feature Balata vs Babonneau U – 19 at 10.00 and Touring vs. Des Barras at 2: 00p.m
