Press Release: The St. Lucia Tennis Association Inc. has recently concluded the 5th Annual Easter Junior Tennis Tournament at the St. Lucia National Tennis Centre in Beausejour. This tennis tournament was a great sensation with junior players on the island; particularly with the male categories. The tennis fan base can’t stop talking about the impressive lengthy rallies and calculated point winners displayed by many of their junior tennis counterparts. This tennis tournament was considered “the best junior tournament of the year” by coaches, parents and spectators alike. The tennis standard was set pretty high at this junior event from the 10 and under players and especially the 14s and 18s categories. It was great practice for our junior players and has assisted in competitive match play, great sportsmanship and taught the juniors the true meaning of competing fairly as well as how to win and lose graciously. All in all, each and every one of the junior participants of this tournament showed true grit and battled till the last advantage point. Players such as Aidan Bousquet, Nadjema Morille, Ishmel Moise, Amelia Rosemond, Troy Joseph, Reidel Clerville, Alannah Bousquet, and Iyana Paul and new to the tennis center tournament scene Aviona Edmund; are all names to remember in this tennis tournament and we can assure you it won’t be the last we see of these athletes.
The tennis tournament came to a close on Saturday 9th April, with the Closing & Awards ceremony. These tournaments are always a joy for the Tennis Association, thanks to our sincere and collective sponsors; five time sponsor Cap Maison Resort & Spa, Digicel St. Lucia, Computer World and Windward & Leeward Brewery Piton Malta.
One week prior to this tennis tournament, the St. Lucia National Tennis Centre hosted a 4-day tennis junior training & development camp from Monday 28th to Thursday 31st March 2016. The tennis camp sort to prepare many of the grassroots junior players with the much needed training and on-court practice for the Easter Tennis Tournament.
Tournament & Camp Directors Ms. Scyla Murray & Ms. Diana Stanislas were eager to get the ball rolling with this development camp, the potential of some of these juniors were clearly noticed. With coaching assistance from resident coaches Vernon Lewis & Ricardo Francois and Tennis National Coach Carlos Lopez; the camp was surely a great accomplishment. The St. Lucia National Tennis Centre received many generous donations and contributions from the tennis fraternity and various private sector companies for this Easter tennis camp. Namely, Northwest Limited, St. Honore bakery, Ramco Chowmein, Tenderoni Foods Inc and Consolidated Foods Limited.
Tournament Directors wish to thank everyone who made this tournament and camp unforgettable, from the sponsors, players, local court officials, spectators, coaches and all those who helped behind the scenes.
