Lorne Theophilus Cup

The Hon. Lorne Theophilus Cup continued this week with two games on Wednesday 16th March and Thursday 17th March respectively. The games were held at the La Fargue Playing Field.

On Wednesday 16th March, Platinum Steel FC took on Streetballers FC.

Platinum Steel FC wasted very little time and produced the first goal of the game within 30 seconds of kick off thanks to a goal from Vonsen Thomas. Streetballers FC equalized in the 20th minute through a strike from Jesse Stephen. Five minutes later , a wonderful Vonsen Thomas strike from about 45 yards out which managed to loop over the goalkeeper saw Platinum Steel regain the lead making it 2-1. Just after the 30 minute mark however, that lead was cut off by another goal from Jesse Stephen to make it 2-2. No goals were scored in the second half as the points were split one a piece. Final score: Platinum FC 2-2 Streetballers.

On Thursday 17th March, Caffiere FC vs Ebony FC.

Caffiere FC started the game on the front foot as they forced an own goal from Ebony FC Defender Randol Charles after a quite promising cross glanced off the defender’s head and went right pass the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to Caffiere FC. Caffiere FC continued to dominate the first half but failed to convert their opportunities as they went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead. It was a surprisingly poor first half performance from Ebony FC.

Ebony FC started the second half brightly as impact substitute Vernan Xavier ran down the right flank and delivered a cross looking shot which looped over the keeper and found its way into the back of the net in the 50th minute to make it 1-1. Ebony FC kept their foot on the gas and not too long after they took the lead through a great cross from Brad Mitchel which was headed into the back of the net by Miguel Cox to make it 2-1 to Ebony FC. Another goal by Miguel Cox sealed the game for Ebony FC in the 70th minute.Final score: Caffiere FC 1-3 Ebony FC

The Tournament continues on Saturday March 19th, 2016 as Choiseul Veterans face last year’s latest champions SomosJovenesat the La Fargue Playing Field at 4 p.m and on Sunday March 20thwill see Streetballers FC take on Caffiere FC at the La Fargue Playing Field at 4 p.m.
